AMOSUN'S Aide resigns,defects to PDP

ABEOKUTA — CRISIS rocking the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ogun State has taken its toll on the government of Senator Ibikunle Amosun as his Special Adviser on Environment; Abimbola Lanre-Balogun has resigned and joined the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Lanre-Balogun, who resigned, Thursday, explained that she resigned her appointment and joined the PDP because Governor Amosun ran government of “myself, for me and my family.”

Speaking at the stakeholders’ meeting of the PDP at the Goodluck Jonathan Political Centre in Ijebu-Igbo, the former Special Adviser claimed many top members of Amosun’s cabinet would defect to the PDP in the state very soon.

Lanre-Balogun was received by PDP’s National Auditor,  Fatai Adeyanju, the state chairman Bayo Dayo and South West Chairman, Organisation and Mobilization Committee of the party, Prince Buruji Kashamu who was honoured with life Patron by South West zone of  National Automobile Technicians Association as well as other leaders of the party who were present at the event.

According to  the former special adviser, “Amosun runs government of nepotism. I have been in this government (Amosun’s) since inception. I was sworn in as Special Adviser on Environment precisely on the 21st of July, 2011 and we swung into action. Like I always say, I have passion for hard work; I set out to do so and began to do what God sent me to do for the good people of Ogun State. I began to work day and night when I was in the Ministry of Environment. It got to a stage that the governor himself called me to exco to take a bow, saying, I was up to the task”.

She  claimed she was later made redundant, alleging that no more work was being sent to her desk, about which she said she complained to the governor.

According to her,  the governor said “the position is just for me to occupy and that the people doing the work are there. And who are the people doing the work? Just five people…. We were not given anything to do. I am a proper Ogun woman born in Abeokuta. Both of my parents are indigenes from Abeokuta.”

She however, claimed  that, more members of Amosun’s cabinet would soon defect  to the PDP, saying, “I have just come forward so that I can preach the gospel to the people there, the gospel of light. I can tell you this, very authoritatively that more people are defecting anytime soon. They are top people; top cabinet members of the government would defect anytime soon.”

In a reaction, the state government  said it had accepted  the resignation letter  of  the former  Special Adviser.

The state Commissioner for Information & Strategy, Yusuph Olaniyonu in  a statement said, “Mrs. Lanre-Balogun in the resignation letter submitted last Friday noted that she was leaving to devote more time to her legal practice and political career. The government, while accepting the resignation thanked her for services she rendered to the good people of the state in the last three years and wished her well in her future endeavours.”
