The University of Ilorin Alumni Association has congratulated the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, the entire management and staff of the institution on the recent web-based ranking of world universities that rated the University the best in Nigeria and one of the best 20 in Africa.
In the 2014 University Web Ranking conducted by 4 International Colleges and Universities (4ICU), the University of Ilorin also made the 1842nd position among the 11,307 world universities rated.
In a press statement signed by its National Public Relations Officer, Mr. Wale Fasakin, and made available to Unilorin Bulletin, the Association described the new ranking as “a rare feat”, adding that“by this new ranking, the University of Ilorin has re-affirmed its leadership position not only in Nigeria but also in Africa”.
Mr. Fasakin pointed out that the Alumni Association received the news of the ranking “with joy and pride”, saying, “As products of this great University, we are proud of the leadership and the entire staff (both academic and non-academic) for this success.”
The Alumni spokesman said, “We in the Alumni Association of this University wish to remind the entire University community that being on top is one thing, but remaining on top is indeed a big challenge. We therefore, wish that this position of leadership among Universities in Nigeria is sustained through the quality of leadership, which is being manifested by the output of this University in the area of research and development, high quality turnout of manpower for the nation and the conducive academic learning environment, which today has made Unilorin a world class citadel of learning and the most subscribed University in Nigeria with over 105,000 admission seekers.”
In the statement, entitled, “Unilorin maintains leadership position”, Mr. Fasakin urged all Alumni members to come and contribute to the development of the University through research collaborations, infrastructural initiatives and scholarship awards.
“The National Executive Council hereby calls on Alumni members worldwide to come and contribute to the development of this great University through research collaborations, infrastructural initiatives and the realisation of our collective dreams of making Unilorin become Africa’s No 1 University”, he said.
